GU10 light bulbs are the preferred light bulbs for track lighting, ceiling lighting, and recessed lighting. They provide small, intense lighting areas to showcase and spotlight exactly what you want. But why would you want to switch to GU10 LED light bulbs? Oh, so many reasons…..
GU10 LED Last Longer
First, GU10 LED bulbs last so much longer than standard halogen GU10 bulbs. Is this really important though? Well, environmentally speaking, of course. But for a more individualistic reason, I hate having to get out the ladder to replace those darn GU10 bulbs every few months. I would pay just about anything to not have to worry about those lights going out for years, rather than months! You don’t mind having to switch out the bulbs on the table lamps, but the ones from the ceiling, where a chair won’t do, where you have to get the ladder out… yeah, I’d pay a bunch to not have to replace those often.
GU10 LED Lights Are Energy Efficient
Second, the GU10 LED bulb use less electricity – a LOT less. Again, environmentally speaking, this is great. But also important is your electric bill. And if you have kids, or a spouse/partner, who don’t quite understand that a room doesn’t need to be lighted if no one is in it, then you will end up saving a bunch of electricity/money. I sometimes think my family only think lights turn on – there is a magical fairy (me) that goes around and turns it off for them!
GU10 LED Light Bulbs Are Cool (To The Touch)
Still another advantage of the GU10 LED lamps is the fact that they run so much cooler than standard halogens. This is also why LED lighting use less electricity. Halogen bulbs only convert about 10% of the energy they consume to produce light, the other portion produces heat. LEDs, on the other hand, do the exact opposite – it’s just the nature of the technology. This makes the GU10 LED usable in so many more places, without worrying about extra cooling needs. You can place these LED spotlights closer to pieces of art without the worry of damaging them due to heat (UV and IR emissions). You can also use these to light up plants, again, without the heat worry.
Dimmer Switches and LEDs
One thing that should be mentioned about LED GU10 light bulbs, and any other LEDs for that matter: If you want a light that you can adjust the brightness on, such as with using a regular dimmer switch, PLEASE make sure you buy a LED light bulb specifically rated for dimming. Dimmer switches work by changing the amount of electricity sent to the bulb. LEDs are subject to premature failure if exposed to voltage spikes, such as what would happen with a dimmer switch. There are LED light bulbs that are designed to be used in dimming situations, ensure you get the right LED lights if this is your situation.
