Spotlights are a common lighting fixture around many homes already. For one, they are a great way to add protection to your home. Motion-sensor spotlights have become very common method of home security as a way to deter would-be burglars. They can also be used for landscape lighting, to accentuate a certain part of your home or garden. Lower wattage spotlights are also used indoors for both general lighting and to accent particular areas.
Gaining in popularity lately are LED spotlights. Especially in solar applications, LEDs are just the best choice. These small lights are not only low voltage, but they also radiate very little heat. Since most solar LED spotlights run off of a battery, the lower the electrical demand, the better.
Outdoor LED Spotlights
One reason why outdoor LED spotlights are gaining in popularity over the traditional kind is because there are many LEDs clustered in one light. Most security lights on our home are located in out-of-the way and hard to reach places. If one LED does go out, there are many others still illuminating the area.
12 volt LED spotlights, particularly those powered by solar panels, are especially attractive for lighting areas away from the house. This is because the solar power does not require any additional wiring from your home’s electrical source. For instance, perhaps you have a gardening shed out in the back of your back yard. With a solar LED spotlight, you can very quickly and easily supply light for your shed without any additional electrical wiring. And, it will cost you nothing to operate it!
LED spotlights outdoor are a great all-around choice for lighting areas outside your house. But they are equally useful indoors as well. Since they don’t generate much heat, they are great for using up close for display lighting for photographs and paintings without causing any type of heat damage to your treasured displays.
Indoor LED Spotlights
While there are many uses for LED spotlights outdoors, there are just as many uses indoors. You can get even lower wattage LED spotlights that can be used for track lighting, lighting under cabinets, in hallways, and even to showcase art. The great thing about LED spotlights when used in conjunction with showing off art, is the minimal heat it generates. Heat from traditional spotlights can damage fine paintings, photographs, and other objects of art. LED spotlights generate such little heat, that it makes them the perfect choice.
Manufacturers are even now making traditional light bulb replacements with LED lights. While these light bulbs are more expensive than CFL or halogen light bulbs, these lights will last for years, require much less energy to operate, and generate little heat. A win-win situation all around.
Perhaps the best part about LED spotlights is how inexpensive they are to operate. Since they use such low wattage, your electric bill due to lighting will definitely lower. The cost of the actual LED spotlight will be more than a halogen spotlight, but will pay for itself rather quickly in energy conservation. And let’s not forget how nice it will be to not have to worry about changing it out every year or two.
